Greece Extradites BTC-e Russian Operator to US

Greece has extradited Russian operator of the BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange, Alexander Vinnik, to the US. Arrested in Halkidiki, Greece, back in 2017, Vinnik is accused in the US of laundering $4 billion via BTC-e.

According to reports, Vinnik will appear in the US Northern District of California. The US authorities believe that BTC-e also played a role in the Mt.Gox's fall. The US Department of Justice believes that BTC-e laundered over 306 000 BTC stolen from Mt.Gox.

French Court Sentences BTC-e Operator to Five Years

DOJ emphasized that BTC-e was noted for its role in numerous ransomware and other cyber-criminal activity.

BTC-e was founded back in 2011 by Alexander Vinnik and Aleksandr Bilyuchenko. As of February 2015, the exchange handled approximately 3% of all BTC exchange volume.
