According to a report recently published by the Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC), the Bitcoin hashrate increased by 73% during the third quarter of the year compared to the previous year, whereas energy consumption increased by only 41%.

The BMC was created in May last year at the initiative of then MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor following a meeting with Elon Musk.

Other founders of the organization include miners Argo Blockchain, Hive Blockchain, Hut 8, Riot Blockchain, Marathon Digital Holdings, Core Scientific and Mike Novogratz's crypto bank Galaxy Digital.

According to the report, BMC members account for 45.4% of Bitcoin's computing power. The share of green power in the indicator is 67.9%.

Based on this data, the organization assumed that in the total hashrate, green power takes up 59.4% of generation, which is approximately 3% more than a year ago.

Mining efficiency increased by 23% during this period, from 17.7 EH/GW to 21.7 EH/GW.
